The Big Warning For Shubman Gill Is “Can’t Produce A Virat Kohli Every Time…”: The Indian Great

The great Indian batsman Krishnamachari Srikkanth feels that for Shubman Gill to live up to the hype around him, he must begin scoring runs away from home. While Gill has been outstanding for India in white-ball cricket, he has not been as successful in Test matches played outside of India. While Srikkanth noted that it is unreasonable to anticipate stats comparable to those of star batsman Virat Kohli, he also said that Gill must strive to match such figures and establish himself as a valued asset.

“Shubman Gill has to provide quality work everywhere. Merely getting runs inside the subcontinent is insufficient. He must score runs away from home. Why is Virat Kohli referred to be the King? Take a look at his record in Test matches, ODIs, and T20Is, even in the last year. Take a look at his track record. I’m at a loss for words. Yes, I understand that you can’t consistently create a Virat Kohli. It is not possible for everyone to be generating Virat Kohli-esque figures. However, you have to make an effort to reach that level of prominence, he noted on his YouTube channel.

“I believe that Shubman Gill’s hype—many people are claiming that he will be the next this or the next that. We’ll just have to wait and see, I believe. I wouldn’t want to undervalue him or overrate him.”

“KL Rahul has not been performing up to par. He can at least become 60–70% of what Virat Kohli has been with the class he has. My rating is that. Rishabh Pant is an additional elite performer. He is superior to everyone else. Sadly, he is not now available for selection,” Srikkanth said.

According to Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday, India’s young batters would only need to figure out how to handle the “challenging” circumstances in South Africa.

Sharma said that he did not anticipate the conditions for the second Test, which begins at Newlands on Wednesday, to alter much from those at Centurion, the site of India’s first Test defeat by an innings.

“The pitch looks pretty similar to Centurion,” he said. “Maybe not full of grass but there is enough covering of grass on the pitch.”

Due to an injury, Sharma was unable to participate in his team’s trip two seasons ago, but teammates who were in Cape Town said that the situation seemed similar to it at the time, when South Africa emerged victorious in a closely fought match with the highest team total of 223.
